The Magic Paintbrush by Robin Muller

MAGIC PAINTBRUSH

I have read this book to students from Grades 3 to 6, with a different focus each time.

The Magic Paintbrush is a story of magic and wonder.  The young artist, Nib,  wishes to paint pictures so that they appear real.

He is given a magic paintbrush for saving an old wizard, and with it is able to paint beautiful pictures that appear real.  But, he finds that this new talent just about brings his downfall.  A greedy king commissions Nib to paint things so that the king can become more powerful and rich.  Just when all seems lost, Nib is able to save himself and learn a valuable lesson at the same time.

This fairy tale is a classic and the artwork of Robin Muller brings this story to life.  Some reviews of this book might not be as complementary, but it is one that I have enjoyed for many years.  I read it for children to enjoy and also to model the characteristics of fairy tales depending upon the grade that I teach.
