Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson
We are first introduced to the main character, Tyler, as he is finishing up his community service, the result of his attempt to become a legend by spraying graffiti on the school.
He is considered a nerd by his peers, is tormented at school, feels alienated by his family, and becomes a victim of twisted perceptions. Teenage issues dealing with alcohol, sex, identity and family issues are dealt with skillfully by the author. Throughout the book, the reader gains insight and observes Tyler's growth and development into a young adult.
This was the first novel I have read by this author and one that I found I couldn't put down. I was anxious to learn how Tyler would deal with his situation, and found the definitive turn around in his personna very uplifting!
